Exclusive: 2017 Guidobono 'La Coste di Monforte' Barolo

Exclusive: 2017 Guidobono 'La Coste di Monforte' Barolo

When you're lucky enough to catch one of the great Barolos of the world at just the right moment, it changes you. They are unequaled. No wine delivers the dizzying, heady, elegant aromas quite like Barolo, as one swirl is all it takes to unlock their beauty and send you into another stratosphere of pleasure. The mystery and grandeur of these wines lie in the way their intense yet graceful flavors are layered incomprehensibly onto such a rich and powerful platform.

Todays' Barolo, from traditionalist Guidobono, is a quintessential and perfect example of these regal wines. A beautiful wine whose pure fruit is seamlessly coupled with intensity, density and might. This bottle can go head-to-head with Piedmont's greatest estates-Conterno, Mascarello, Rinaldi- but is being offered today at a fraction of the cost of those wines. I haven't found a better value in Barolo than this.

Guidobono is at the heart and soul of the Faccenda family, accurately reflecting their obsession with terroir. They purchased the property in 2003 with the vision to craft pure, traditional Barolo from only the best sites; Monforte being particularly prized.

Today they meticulously farm several sites throughout the Langhe. Their winery is spotless and techniques exacting, all of which convey in their vibrant, soulful, world class wines.
100% Nebbiolo planted on clay and limestone soils with southeastern exposure in the heart of Barolo. Hand harvested in two passes around ten days apart: the first pick to preserve freshness of fruit and the second to deliver power and richness. Fermented in stainless steel before aging in large, used oak casks. Bottled and released four years after harvest.

A commanding and supremely elegant bouquet of raspberry, cherry, rose petal, cedar, blond tobacco, gentle spice and a touch of licorice. The impressive, full-bodied palate is rich and dense with concentrated fruit buttressed by firm structure and bright acidity. A serious wine which can be cellared but is absolutely singing right now.
