I'm an unabashed lover of Sangiovese, and to put this simply as I can, today's wine is one of the best bottles I've tasted in some time. Coming from a young producer who's small plot of vines sits in the heart of Sangiovese's homeland, his is a pristine piece of natural beauty in Val d'Orcia within a UNESCO World Heritage area. Despite his youth, there is nothing naive about this wine however. Conveying the depth and ancient traditions of Tuscany impeccably, it delivers bright berry fruits seamlessly layered with Mediterranean herbs and dusty, earthy undertones.
To describe a wine as soulful can sometimes be a bit dubious, but that's exactly what this wine possesses. And when a wine can evoke emotion, you know you're experiencing something special.

Over ten years ago, 26 year old Matteo Gori took a massive risk and leveraged everything he had to purchase 20 hectares of mixed agricultural land near the bucolic Tuscan village of Pienza. A decade later, Matteo's Casagori consists of five hectares of vineyards, along with olives, grains, woodlands and grazing space for sheep who make the ultra-delicious Pecorino di Pienza.
In the cellar he sticks to traditional Tuscan winemaking: fermentation in small stainless steel tanks and aging in a combination of cement and old oak barrels. These are wines that transport you to Tuscany with every bottle.
A traditional Chianti Classico blend comprised of 90% Sangiovese with 3% Colorino and 7% Canaiolo grown on sandy, clay soils at 450m in elevation. The hand-harvested grapes are fermented with ambient yeast then racked into large, old French barrels for one year before being bottled un-fined and unfiltered.
Aromas of red cherry, black raspberry, violets, rosemary and sandalwood unfurl from the glass. The palate's silky texture and heady notes of earth are buttressed perfectly by classic Sangiovese acidity. A deep wine with endless charm.
