Exclusive: 2021 Division 'Deux' Pinot Noir

Exclusive: 2021 Division 'Deux' Pinot Noir

If you accuse me of being a European wine snob, I would have no rebuttal. My education and career are rooted in the old-world. One spin around Monarch puts this on full display, as our new-world selections are relegated to only a few shelves in the back of the shop.

Whether right or wrong, each time I taste domestic wine I immediately compare it to its' European counterpart. Can I find a European wine that delivers this same experience? If the answer is yes, I usually pass on the wine. Perhaps I'm too much of a domestic wine skeptic, but the wine has to really shine and stand on its own, and today's wine does just that.

This is one of the most tantalizing American Pinot Noirs I have ever tasted. Carrying the depth of its Willamette Valley terroir with elegance and purity. Not only stacking up to, but clearly surpassing many Pinots from across the pond. As the winemaking team at Division puts it: 'A crown jewel of the 2021 vintage. Single-site Pinot from one of the absolute best vineyards in the U.S.'

Today, I'm proud to offer the only bottles of 2021 Division Wine Co. 'Deux' Pinot Noir in South Carolina!

Tom Monroe is one of our favorite people, especially in the wine business. He's just the kind of winemaker we love: smart, attentive, and immensely talented. But also humble, soft spoken and quicker to ask a question than give an unsolicited answer.

Along with Kate Norris, he started Division Wine Co. after winemaking tours in Beaujolais, the Loire Valley and Burgundy. Together they craft a beautiful range of wines in their Portland based winery, sourcing fruit from nearby Willamette Valley and using a deep knowledge of classic French wines as their muse. They strive to make balanced wines with minimal intervention, so it’s no surprise they’ve found a home on our shelves.
Pinot Noir 'Deux'

Sourced from the Eola Springs Vineyard in the Willamette Valley. The 50-year old, biodynamically grown vines are hand-harvested and fermented with native yeast with 30% whole bunches. The wine is raised in French barrique, 30% new, before bottled un-fined and unfiltered.

Brimming with purity, the wine opens with black cherry, strawberry and rhubarb balanced with subtle herbs and spice. The palate is pure silk and red fruits with a touch of autumnal citrus peel and clove. Sleek tannins and bright acidity bring all that flavor to the fore with elegance. World Class Pinot.
