Exclusive: 2023 Domaine de la Pépière 'Briords' Muscadet

Those of you who have been following along for a while have probably heard this before: Domaine de la Pépière 'Clos de Briords' Muscadet is my all-time favorite wine. I've been buying and enjoying it for over 20 years, and each and every bottle is exactly as it should be: a liquid portrayal of a landscape where land meets sea.

My career has been shaped by two wines, both opened my eyes to the transportive power that lies within truly special bottles. Today's wine was one of them.

It's the historic domaine's flagship bottling, sourced from a single 4.4 hectare site, the Montrachet of Muscadet. I'm absolutely smitten with the 2023 vintage. It's brisk, salty, deeply mineral and so incredibly delicious that I bought every bottle I could. I continue to wonder: why haven't prices risen!?!

Toady, I'm proud to offer the only bottles of 2023 Domaine de la Pépière 'Briords' Muscadet in South Carolina.

Biodynamically farmed Melon de Bourgogne planted on schist and deep granite bedrock. This is a special, old-vine parcel ranging from 50 - 70 years old. Hand-harvested and gently pressed, the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged on the lees in traditional, glass-lined, underground tanks for 8 months before bottling and release.

A lucid, crystalline nose of crushed oyster shells, sea spray, lemony citrus, and green apple. The palate is salty and savory, packed with green citrus, iodine and concentrated mid-palate minerality. Its refreshment and drinkability is only surpassed by its depth and terroir transparency. Year after year, this seemingly humble wine continues to astonish me.
The illustrious Marc Olivier has come to be synonymous with Domaine de la Pépière. He first started the domaine with only seven hectares and a dream. Today the estate is in very capable hands with residing proprietors Rémi Branger, a local that Marc has known since he was a kid, and Gwénaëlle Croix.

Farming at the domaine is entirely organic with biodynamic practices, and while 50% of the estate’s vineyards fall within the cru limits, they only represent an average of 15% of Pépière's annual production. In some vintages they will produce less or no cru wines at all if the quality is not there. These are some of world's greatest white wines, at any price point.
