Exclusive: Champagne Domaine Lagille 'L'Inattendue' Brut

Exclusive: Champagne Domaine Lagille 'L'Inattendue' Brut

I'll keep this one simple: today's wine, is without a doubt, one of the best values I have ever come across. Not just in Champagne, but the wine world as a whole. It's the first release from Domaine Lagille to be imported in to the US, and it is impressive.

The depth and richness found in this wine is rarely seen in bottles twice its price. Crafted by the young Vincent Lagille, whose skill has coaxed crystaline acidity and freshness from this mighty, 100% Pinot Meunier cuvée. It is a shockingly deep, vinous, and remarkably complex wine.

We all know what really expensive Champagne tastes like, and this is it: powerful and prismatic with striking, detailed aromatics tinged by biscuity undertones. Its brilliance portrayed by a balance of delicacy and drinkability, despite its luxurious feel and commanding presence. This paradox of density and lift really sets this great wine apart, especially at this price.

Today, I'm proud to offer the only bottles Champagne Domaine Lagille 'L'Inattendue' Brut in South Carolina

100% Pinot Meunier from a single vineyard in Montagne de Reims, planted on classic clay-limestone soils in the village of Treslon. A stone's throw from Egly-Ouriet's famours 1er Cru 'Les Vignes'. Organically farmed, and manually harvested, the grapes are pressed directly into stainless steel for fermentation. The wine is then bottled for secondary fermentation where it ages on the lees for 36 months before disgorgement and released.

Golden and intense, the nose opens up with fresh white pear, quince, Rainier cherry, jasmine tea and chalk dust minerality. The palate is lush, textural and mouth coating, with notes of crisp apple, lemon, raw almond and just toasted bread. Hints of baked pastry and crème anglaise are balanced by vibrant acidity and a clean, dry, saline finish. An impressive champagne that's a TON of wine for the money.
The Lagille family have been winegrowers in Champagne since 1818. Maud Lagille joined the winery in 2002, and was the first in the family to really focus and commit to conscientious farming.

Her brother Vincent, 13 years her junior, joined in 2012 and is now at the helm. An experimentalist from the start, Vincent was the impetus behind recent and major changes at the estate. His experimentation in cultivation and winemaking matched with the family's strong history in the area has led to a modern resurgence of Domaine Lagille.

Each new release is a perfect coupling of history and tradition with evolution and modernization, which has made this an estate to watch.
