Exclusive: Chevillard 2-Pack

I've fallen in love with the Savoie. The jaw dropping beauty of its rugged, snow-capped landscape is only surpassed by the crystalline elegance of its wines. Vineyards here are planted at high elevation on limestone, yielding brilliantly aromatic, purely-fruited wines grounded by dark, earthy undertones. Singular wines I can best describe as a dazzling amalgamation of Burgundy and the Northern Rhône.

In my opinion there is no better wine being made in the Savoie than those at Domaine de Chevillard. I'll take it one step further: I believe winemaker Matthieu Gory is one of the finest vignerons in all of France and his prowess is showcased in this duo of Pinot Noir and Gamay. Two of the finest examples of these varieties I've encountered over the past couple of years. Each offering the inherent flavors you'd expect in world class Pinot and Gamay, but displayng loftier, more refined aromatics than one would find in Burgundy or Beaujolais. The heightened tension and elegance in these wines make them some of the most impeccably made red wines to ever hit our shelves.

Today, I'm proud to offer the only bottles of Domaine du Chevillard, Pinot Noir and Gamay in South Carolina

Vin de Savoie, Gamay 2020
$54.99

Gamay from 40-year-old vines planted on limestone soils in a tiny, 0.7 hectare plot. The grapes ferment naturally in concrete without pump overs or punch downs. Instead, he opts to fill a bucket with fermenting wine from the bottom, and dump it over the cap multiple times over the course of fermentation, keeping extraction to a minimum. After 14 days, the wine is moved to neutral 225L oak barrels to age. After two years the wine is bottled. No fining, filtering, or racking.

A serious and structured take on Gamay guaranteed thrill the Beaujolais lover looking for something new. Wild but delicate nose of violets and brambly red berries checked by earthy, forest floor undertones. The palate's vibrant freshness, peppery spice and limestone mineral cut make this a brilliant aperitif, yet has enough power to accompany dinner.
Vin de Savoie, Pinot Noir 2020
$58.99

Coming from a minisqule 0.36 hectare parcel planted to Pinot Noir twice, once in 1962 and then again in 1982. The vines sit at an altitude between 350-450 meters above sea level on gray marl soils facing south. Hand harvested, the grapes are fully de-stemmed and ferment naturally in concrete tanks for 21 days. The same pour over technique is used here as well. The wine again ages in oak for two full years before bottling with out any filtration or fining, straight from the barrel.

The epitome of elegance. Delicate and crystalline, this is Pinot in its prime. Taut red berries, cinnamon stick and earthy, floral aromas can be found on both the nose and palate. There's serious purity of fruit and firm yet lacy tannins, with enough body to ground this wine and provide perfect balance to the perfumed and soaring aromatics. Give this plenty of air and see all that Goury is capable of.
Matthieu Goury’s family have lived and farmed in the Combe de Savoie valley for generations. He named his domaine after the tiny village where his grandparents live, and where he purchased a stone farmhouse built in 1703. He lives with his wife and children upstairs, while making wine in the extremely compact (read: cramped) stone cellars downstairs.

His wines show an exceptionally deft touch for a young winemaker. Despite his minimalist approach in the cellar, the wines are clean, bright, and supremely refined. At their best, these wines display a truly chiseled brilliance that cuts to the very heart of what the Savoie does so well.
