If you're an avid reader of this newsletter, you've probably heard me wax on about the greatness of Envínate. The wines made by this Spanish quartet continue to be at the top of my personal favorites list. These are wines I reach for more frequently than any others in the shop. It's safe to say I've drank many, many bottles over the years, and I can say without a doubt, this 2022 Palo Blanco is the most complete and delicious bottle of Envínate ever.
A wine made in minuscule quantities, from a single variety, grown on a single site, perched 2000 feet above the Atlantic. These 100 year old vines are continuously battered by strong, cold winds, leading to tiny yields of compact and concentrated grape clusters. The resulting wine is distinctly mineral-forward, with rocky, flinty, salty notes that are complemented by citrus and herbs.
Completely and utterly original, there simply is nothing else to compare it to. It is its own reference point, and a thrilling experience to drink. |

100% Lístan Blanco sourced from north-facing parcels on the Canary Island of Tenerife. Hand harvested, de-stemmed and directly pressed, the wine ferments in concrete with native yeasts and no temperature control. After fermentation, the wine is racked into neutral, Friulian oak barrels to age for 10 months before bottling.
Rivetingly oceanic with aromas of sea spray, sunny citrus, green pineapple and flinty, rocky volcanic smoke. The palate is electric, delivering Meyer lemon, white flowers and bay leaf on a bed of saline minerals followed by poignant, cleansing acidity. A mesmerizing, singular and supremely delicious wine. |
