Did you know white wine represents only 4% of Provence's total production? A fact we found out only after tasting this mind blowing Vermentino (aka Rolle in France) from Aix-en-Provence. A genre-defying wine that illuminates the extraordinary potential for world-class white wine in the this land of over-produced, mostly bland rosé.

The impressiveness of this wine is perhaps, in no small part, due to winemaker Marc Kemlin's pedigree and upbringing in Chassagne-Montrachet. This is a fascinating take on a native Mediterranean variety shown through a Burgundian lens.

It's a radiant, glossy, lucid white, delivering sunny fruit and herbal freshness with a distinct oceanic current that permeates throughout. A game-changing new discovery that will flip your perception of southern French white wine.

Vines planted by Kemlin himself in 2019 on clay and silica soils with limestone bedrock. All farming is organic with no synthetic chemicals. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in a 60/40 mix of Burgundian barrels and stainless steel tanks. After aging on the lees for eight months, it's bottled without fining or filtration.

A wine of exquisite balance and detail, offering aromas of white grapefruit and crisp pear contrasted by fresh cut herbs, pretty florals and a touch of raw almond. The palate is textural and round edged but with plenty of cut in the form of saline minerals and lemony acidity. A quintessential seafood wine with enough versatility to stand up to roast pork with Herbs de Provence.
Burgundian by birth, but Provençal by choice, Marc Kemlin has been in wine almost his entire life. As a boy, he helped family friends in the vineyards around Chassagne-Montarchet, picking grapes and making wine. While growing grapes for a local seller, he became disenchanted with how many in Burgundy still grow beautiful fruit just to sell to large negociants. When his wife expressed interest in returning to her home in Provence, he leapt at the opportunity.

After settling in the area, he decided to forge his own path, planting vines of Rolle in 2019 and founding his estate, Colvert. Now in his third vintage, Kemlin has only grown in his commitment to defying the rosé cult and continuing to make white wine his way: simply, purely and reflective of his new home.
