Chenin, We Love You

They say too much of anything is bad, but when it comes to Chenin Blanc, we'll have to politely decline that statement. You could explore a different Chenin for a week straight (or month, or year!), experiencing something new with each pop of the bottle. Why? In the simplest of words, this grape creates a diverse array of styles: from crisp and lean, to unctuous and rich, and everything in between.

Chenin can lead multiple lives – it's up to you to find out which one you want to be a part of. Crisp, linear and citrusy? Bolder, richer, more textural? Or a white with so much minerality, you feel as if you're standing right where the grapes are grown? No matter which style of wine you gravitate towards, there's a Chenin on our shelf that will please your palate.

As with most wines, the most important factors when picking your Chenin are where it's grown and how it's made. Its prominent home is the Loire Valley, where different sub-regions and winemaking techniques create an abundance of styles to explore. Dive in!

And because we're so eager for you to indulge in Chenin Blanc, we're offering 10% off a mixed pack of 6 bottles!

A Chenin Journey from Monarch!

Try one or try them all – regardless, we can promise you'll have a new found love for this chameleon grape. Arranged from dry and zippy to lush and comforting, here's all you need to know about our shelf full of Chenin:
Thibaud Boudignon, Anjou Blanc 2017 $34.99 [Not pictured]:
Calling all Chablis and Sancerre fans! Chenins from Anjou fall under an array of styles – we'd call this one electric. If any wine showcases Chenins extremely high acidity, it's this one. Mouthwateringly minerality and so so bright, this is your go-to wine for oysters and sushi.

François Chidaine 'Les Argiles' Vouvray 2017 $34.99
Like Anjou, Vouvray presents a variety of Chenin styles. This one is dry with irresistible power and breadth due to the clay-rich soils the grapes are grown on. Filled with ripe tangerine fruit complemented by a chalky minerality and a persistent, refreshing finish.

Domaine Frantz Saumon 'Minéral Plus' Montlouis sur Loire 2017 $34.99
Minerality for dayssss. The grapes for this bottling come from a blend of different terroirs to represent the village of Montlouis as a whole. Dry with a punch of tangy citrus, smoked sea salt and honeysuckle – try with spicy Asian cuisine!

Domaine Andrée 'Les Faraunières' Anjou 2015 $52.99
Our newest crush! Made from 100+ year-old Chenin Blanc vines planted in schistous soils topped with yellow clay and quartz. Its notes of quince, ripe peach, and pear are accompanied by some toasty, comforting notes from its oak aging. A perfect accompaniment to seafood or poultry prepared in a decadent style.

Domaine du Closel 'La Jalousie' Savennières 2015 $37.99
A perfect combination of richness and searing acidity. Unmistakably Savennières with its honeyed, beeswax-like qualities, along with meyer lemon and luscious peach. Old school.

Domaine de Bellivière 'Les Rosiers' Jasnières 2017 $42.99
Jasnières is one of the most unknown and under-appreciated regions in the Loire Valley. This is made from Chenin planted on tuffeau, a local, chalky limestone found solely in the Loire Valley. The acidity brings a lip-puckering cut that you won't be able to resist, along with flavors of ginger, ripe golden apples, quince and honeysuckle. The perfect white wine.

Les Arches de Bellivière 'Confluence' Bonnezeaux 2017 $33.99
Bonnezeaux is known for sweet wines, but this Chenin is bone dry. Aromas of fresh pineapple, chalky limestone and white lillies are followed by a bright and full-bodied palate with a racy backend.

Domaine Mosse 'Arena' Savennières 2017 $49.99
If you like piña coladas...seriously! This is a dry, yet rich and powerful Chenin filled with sunshine and tropical fruits. It's creamy, yet bright and refreshing – we could drink this all day long. Chill and drink on your favorite beach chair.

Chàteau de Bonnezeaux 'La Montagne - Salve Regina' Anjou 2017 $44.99
A dry Chenin from a château with rich history. Notes of fresh white pear, crushed rocks and cardamom spice will draw you in to experience its unctuous, yet thirst-quenching palate. Chenin collectors have been all over this rare bottling!
