Some wines make me feel like a kid again. Just the sight of the bottles gets my heart pumping and mouth watering with anticipation. They bring me rare moments of unadulterated joy and pleasure, what one might call bliss.
The wines of Dard & Ribo are such wines. Although they hail from some of the most renowned and serious terroir in the Northern Rhône, they are made in a light-handed, bright and joyous manner. They manage to be some of the most thought provoking wines in France, while also being insanely delicious, almost too easy to drink.
Today, I'm proud to offer a comprehensive range from one of my all time favorite producers' René-Jean Dard and François Ribo!
In spite of its cult status, this estate's owners keep a low profile. Dard & Ribo is short for René-Jean Dard and François Ribo, the two men behind this iconic winery. Established over 30 years ago, it was a pioneer in low-intervention, chemical-free winemaking.
In 2008, winemaker and proprietor Céline Gormally began her domaine after working with close friend and Jura icon, Julien Labet. Joined by her husband in 2016, the couple is now making some of the most sought after wines coming out of France.
'Premice' 2018 $54.99
All Savagnin (Jura's native white) and aged for 9 months in old Meaursault barrels. This young vine wine jumps from the glass with aromas of lemon meringue, toasted almonds and pear. The supple texture delivers ripe green apple flavors that are balanced by a savory, salty, stony minerality. There is an undeniable depth and complexity to this layered wine. Mind-blowing.
'Les Combes' 2018 $48.99
These 50 year old Chardonnay vines rooted in heavy clay yield fruit with immense depth and concentration. Combining power and grace, there is a bright, airy, ethereal quality to this wine that keeps the intensity in check. Nuanced aromas of citrus and orchard fruits burst over your palate followed by stunning acidity and a lengthy finish. This is one Chardonnay that could bring envy even to top Burgundy producers.
'Croix Sarrant' 2018 $63.99
This electrifying Savagnin comes from a mere 0.3 hectare plot untouched by chemicals since its inception. Tucked in a cool valley surrounded by a forest rich in biodiversity, the vines grow in limestone rich marl, perfect for this variety. A supremely balanced wine driven by sharp acidity. Rounded out by dense texture, ripe apricot and salivating salinity, with hints of almond and vanilla. 'Une grande bouteille' this wine will age for years to come.
