This wine took me by surprise, as the Southern Rhône is not a place I'm particularly drawn to. Though undoubtably home to some of the world's great wines, I find that many of the wines suffer from a lack of purity and delicacy; often laden with high alcohol contents and way too much new oak.

This is not the case with today's bottle and that is the reason I fell in love with it. A Gigondas from a warm vintage that captures all the beguiling aromatics of Southern French reds: spice, herbs de Provence, cassis and frankincense. It's simultaneously bold and broad AND light on its feet. A magical combination only found in truly special wines. This is as good as any wine coming from its more prestigious neighbor Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and at half the price!

Château Redortier is a renowned and historic estate. The family-run farm, established in 1956, is now in the caring hands of twin sisters Sabine and Isabelle.

Consisting of a mere 35 hectares facing the prestigious Dentelles de Montmirail, the terroir is exceptional, with vines ranging upwards of 500 meters in altitude. Everything is done by hand and vinification is extremely traditional, without use of any new oak barrels. The sisters only release their wines when they deem them ready, at times storing bottles in their cave for several years before release to the market.

These are perfectly aged and stored wines, direct to our shelves.
70% Grenache, 30% Syrah from the highest elevation vineyards in Gigondas, lying just east of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The grapes are de-stemmed, fermented in cement, and aged in large French oak casks. Bottled ONLY when ready.

A robust and explosive bouquet of blackberry, currant, pepper, dried herbs and lavender. Everything is exactly as it should be and the result is beautiful. The palate is seductive and warming, yet crystal clear and detailed with surprising freshness and verve. Beautiful and wild all at the same time. Ready to drink, but will certainly reward a few more years in your cellar.
