Celine et Laurent Tripoz Burgundy's Bang For Your Buck
For Burgundy nerds like me, watching the climbing prices for bottles from this storied area has been shocking. Over the last several years, wines from producers and regions I love have become out of reach for most consumers. While hard to be outright upset about this, as wines from these hallowed vines deserve the recognition and vignerons have certainly earned it through their tireless work, it has no doubt become a tall order to find well-priced Burgundies.
One of my greatest joys as a buyer is sourcing and discovering wines for the shop that over-deliver. Wines that possess soul and meaning without breaking the bank. The wines of Celine and Laurent Tripoz are one of my most exciting finds of the year. Their wines are everything I adore about Burgundy, without the sticker shock.
Today, I'm thrilled to offer a Pinot Noir, Gamay and Chardonnay from Celine and Laurent Tripoz! The ONLY bottles available in South Carolina!

The wines from the Mâcon have never garnered the accolades and lofty reputations compared to their northern brethren of the Côte d'Or. As Laurent Tripoz puts it: "The Maconnais is not blessed with the great terroirs of northern Burgundy, we have to work harder to get good wines here."
Celine and Laurent Tripoz established in 1986 by purchasing some small parcels of vines around the small village of Loché, where their cellar is located. They sold grapes to their local co-op at first. It wasn't until 1990 that they began bottling their own wine. All work is done biodynamically (Demeter certified). In the cellar, Céline and Laurent believe that doing everything naturally is crucial to coaxing the maximum amount of quality from terroir they see as being less prestigious than other parts of Burgundy.
These wines are consistently some of the most thoughtful, pure, and precise wines to come out of the Mâconnais. They won't stay around for long.
Pouilly-Loché '1ere Réserve' 2017$39.99
100% Chardonnay from vines just outside the village. The wine spends almost two years in oak before bottling. This is the domain's most age-worthy and complex wine.
The wine opens with a bang: citrus, orchard fruits and spice combined with a touch of sappy pine. The palate is refined and detailed with baked apple, toasted walnut and salty minerals. Meursault for a song.
Bourgogne Rouge 'Chant de la Tour' 2018$34.99
From a single parcel planted in 2001 that has never been treated with synthetic chemicals. It's vinified in both stainless steel and used oak barrels. A bright and vibrant nose of cherry, strawberry, raspberry and spice. The palate is lush and flavorful without being cloying. Big flavor held together nicely by a streak of crisp limestone minerals. Clean, very Pinot, and definitely Bourgogne.
Mâcon Rouge 'Les Perrières' 2018 $32.99
Mâcon Rouge is rarely seen outside of Burgundy! 100% Gamay grown on limestone. Semi-carbonic fermentation in stainless steel makes for an incredibly vibrant and expressive wine.
Full of cranberry and strawberry fruit, a bit of cedar and a distinct peppery note on the rich and expressive nose. Slightly darker fruits on the palate, with currant and plum. Super juicy and lively with a distinct saline finish. Grab it while you can!
