Over the next 9 days, I will highlight one special wine each day. These are the top wines that stood out among the thousands of wines I tasted this year. Some are always in stock, some are rare and hard to find, but all of them are sure to fill you with joy this Holiday Season.
DAY 2: EPIC CHENIN BLANC
What drives me to love Chenin Blanc and Domaine du Collier's wines so much? It's Chenin's ability to do a magical balancing act of producing concentrated, flavorful wines while retaining striking acidity and laser focus. When made well, these are some of the most tense and balanced wines on earth. And no one is making finer examples of Chenin Blanc than the Loire Valley's Domaine du Collier.

Collier is undoubtably one of the most exciting young domaines in the Loire. The speed at which it has garnered so much praise speaks to the remarkable quality of their wines.

While I love this wine in every vintage, this vintage in particular is the most profound and memorable one yet. The 2017 Saumur Blanc is easily one of the greatest white wines I've had this year.

In the Loire valley, the surname Foucault is on par with Rousseau in Burgundy or Conterno in Piedmont. Antoine Foucault of Domaine du Collier cut his teeth at the famed Clos Rougeard working for his father and uncle, Charles and Nady Foucault. He set out at the ripe old age of 26 to start Domaine du Collier with a smattering of hundred year old Chenin Blanc vines on limestone outcroppings in Saumur.
Old vine Chenin Blanc sourced from what is considered the greatest plot for Chenin in the world: the hill of Brézé. Organically farmed, fermented with native yeasts and aged for 3 years in a mixture of barriques and large oak barrels.

A refined and radiant nose of citrus zest, crushed rocks, and baked apple. The palate is dense with pure orchard fruit, chiseled acidity and textbook Chenin texture. A long mineral finish seems to last for hours. The most regal and high-minded white I've had this year.
