Foradori 'Fuoripista' Pinot Grigio & Nosiola Two Fascinatingly Different White Wines
If you're a wine nerd like me, drinking various wines from the same wine maker, side by side, is thrilling and fascinating. Picking up on the similarities and differences between two wines, made by the same person, allows me to really get to know a producer on a deeper and profound level.
Today's offer showcases two wines with stark variances, made by one of my favorite Italian winemakers, Elisabetta Foradori. What really makes this an interesting duo is that they are both white wines, so while it would be obvious to offer a white and red in a contrast study of style, these two white wines stand out on their own. Both unique and delicious, for completely different reasons.
One, a skin-contact Pinot Grigio with layers of texture and sublime aromatics unlike any Pinot Grigio you've had before. The other, a pristine, laser-focused white with a cutting mineral edge made from the indigenous variety Nosiola. Today, I'm thrilled to offer two distinct wines from Elisabetta Foradori:

Reigning from Trentino, way up in the Dolomite mountain range, Elisabetta is all about the energy the mountains give her land. Conserving her heritage through vineyards fuels her passion, as she continues to dedicate herself to protecting her land through biodiversity. It was her father's untimely death in 1984 that forced Elisabetta's hand in taking over the family winery at only 19 years old, she's become one of the most influential winemakers in the world.
Her philosophy is simple: trust and love the vines and make wines that are true reflections of indigenous grapes and their land.
This is no ordinary Pinot Grigio. Sourced from an old pergola-trained vineyard of sand and gravel soils worked bio-dynamically. The grapes spend 8 months on their skins in clay amphorae, a pre-industrial and ancient method of making white wine.
The color is striking, radiating from the glass with orange, pink and blush hues. The aromas are fragranced with tangerine, tea leaves, wild strawberries, and anise. The palate is crisp yet lush with fresh citrus and red berries. Finishes with soft tannins and powdery mineral notes. Singular and unforgettable.
Nosiola 2019 $49.99 Newsletter Price$46.99
100% Nosiola. An ancient local variety, Nosiola has made a small comeback from near-extinction, thanks in large part to Foradori, who farms 2 hectares of it on clay-limestone soils. Whole berries ferment spontaneously and age in clay amphorae for 8 months, then in oak and acacia casks for 2 additional months before bottling.
This wine is ALIVE! Light in color and almost deceptive in its complexity. Aromas of lemon blossom, star fruit, fresh mountain herbs and crushed rocks. The palate is focused and precise, bursting with citrus and stony minerals. Chablis-like in many ways, this is a must for any lover of stunning white wine.
