There is nothing quite like drinking a perfectly stored wine just as it reaches its optimal drinking age. The aromas are beguiling, changing with each sniff, as the gentle textures envelope your palate and coat your mouth. The flavors linger on your tongue, long after you've swallowed, creating a drinking experience like none other. Today's offer of two incredible Tuscan wines are exactly that, unforgettable.

If you're like me, you drink mostly young wine. It's only on the rare occasion that I get to drink a beautifully matured bottle. I just don't have access to much of it and admittedly have little patience with my own stored wines! So it gives me great pleasure to seek out and offer wines with age. In this case, direct from the winery.

Tunia was born in 2008 when Chiara Innocenti and Francesca Di Benedetto purchased 25 hectares of ancient vineyards that had been abandoned and left fallow since the 1970s. Situated in the rolling hills near Arezzo, Tuscany, their land is remarkable. The 40 year-old vines soak in warm sunlight throughout the day and are cooled by persistent winds from nearby Lake Trasimeno. This is THE definition of a viticultural Camelot.

With no family ties to wine production and no formal training, Chiara and Francesca's story is one of perseverance, and the age-old story of following your dreams no matter the cost or hardship. The pair make five cuvées from 15 hectares of organically grown vines, planted alongside olive trees and surrounded by pristine woodlands. There isn't a neighbor in sight. The soils are rich in limestone, which lends freshness and elegance to these crisp, wild, and truly fascinating wines.

'Chiarafiore' 2014 $44.99

A blend of Trebbiano and Vermentino, fermented separately in stainless steel. The Vermentino is macerated on its skins for two weeks while the Trebbiano is harvested in three phases and vinified only partly on its skins.

A wonderfully complex orange wine with layers of texture and flavor. The wine leads with Earl Grey tea, stone fruit and exotic spice aromas. The multi-faceted palate is deeply concentrated with salty minerals and just a touch of subtle tannins on the finish. A serious white wine meant to be shared over the course of a meal.

'Chiassobuio' 2009 $49.99

Made from the oldest vines of the estate, 90% Sangiovese with Colorino and Canaiolo rounding out the blend. Hand harvested and fermented with native yeasts. The wine spends an entire year in stainless steal and large Slovenian oak casks. celebration of Tunia's remarkable terroir.

Elegantly perfumed, the wine explodes from the glass with cherry tobacco, plum, spice and dried flowers. Despite its age, the wine's remarkably vibrant acidity keeps the palate lively while the depth of flavor seems to grow with each sip. A quintessential red for any Italian wine lover.
