Julien Pineau 'Substance' 2016 $44.99
In 2015, Julien Pineau took over Clos Roche Blanche, one of the most important estates in the Loire Valley. Not only was Clos an inspiration for many young vignerons to convert to organic and biodynamic viticulture, but its ownership has remained in the family since its creation in the 19th century. Due to Pineau's passion and dedication, he was able to take over the domaine...and the legend lives on. He respects the greatness of Touraine terroir through horse-plowing and biodynamic farming. 'Substance,' 100% Sauvignon Blanc planted on old-vine clay and limestone, fermented and aged in large oak barrels. Aromas of ripe lemon and spices are complemented by a pure-fruited palate. Striking minerality reminds us how special this land is. A humbling, surprising and delicious Sauvignon Blanc like you've never tasted before. No sulphur added.
Laurent Lebled 'La Sauvignonne' 2017 $27.99
After working for 30+ years as a wood merchant, Laurent Lebled found himself out of a job. Two childhood friends stepped in and helped him pursue a career path he never would have expected. He's now successfully crafting sulphur-free wines from tiny plots in Touraine. 'La Sauvignonne' is made from (you guessed it!) 100% Sauvignon Blanc, crafted in a rare method for white wines: whole-cluster carbonic maceration. It's scrumptiously filled with notes of tart apple with a squeeze of citrus, while the skin-to-juice contact provides subtle texture and grip. This is the ANTI New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc!
Domaine le Briseau 'Patapon Blanc' 2017 $34.99
In 2002, Christian Chaussard and Natalie Gaubicher (a Swiss actress with a diploma in enology) settled in the Jasnières area of northern Touraine. Clay and silex soils are atop chalky limestone in this hidden gem of an appellation. Its narrow band of soils along with its extremely cold climate make for Chenin Blancs of purity and deep minerality. Full of flavor and concentration sitting atop a light frame. Notes of pineapple and green apple, thirst-quenching acidity, smokey mineral structure and a slight honeyed ripeness. You may hate clowns, but you'll Love. This. Chenin.
Beret et Compagnie (Bruno Ciofi) 'Tous les Ch'nins menent a Rome Blanc' 2015 $29.99
After partnering with a handful of renowned vignerons and establishing a name among natural producers all over the world, Bruno Ciofi founded Beret et Compagnie. This negotiant label's mission is to assist small producers in Loire Valley who are working the natural way. All fruit from organic and biodynamic vineyards. This chenin hails from a biodynamic grower in the Coteaux du Layon, famous for its sunny slopes and pebbly, schistous soils. It tastes and smells of salty ocean air, ripe apple, peach and white rose. It's dry on the palate, but reveals a powerful richness balanced by electric acidity and tension. Ideal with summer's bounty of fresh produce...or all on its lonesome.
Pierre-Olivier Bonhomme 'La Tesnière Blanc’ 2017$34.99
Domaine Pierre-Olivier Bonhomme is the continuation of a previous project run by Pierro-O and Thierry Puzelat, both pioneers in the natural wine world. Puzelat has since moved on, but Pierre-O is keeping the project alive by making the wines that originally put them on the map. 'La Tesnière' is made up of 75% Menu Pineau–a scintillating grape planted primarily in the Loire–and 25% Chenin Blanc from Touraine. It's irresistibly crisp and stony with flavors of yellow flower, hazelnut and baked apple. The minerality gives it a tangy, salty and bright edge which dances on the palate – a fascinating bottle to say least.
Pierre-Olivier Bonhomme Chardonnay 2017
Our second new addition from Pierre-O Bonhomme, we love him! Chardonnay from Cheverny, Touraine. Chard in its wildest form, with juicy citrus and a rich, creamy mouthfeel that will make you wonder why you ever questioned this grape. Clean, plump and pure fruited with bone-chilling minerality. Taste Chardonnay again...for the first time!
