I still cannot believe we procured this wine AND that we're the only people in EITHER Carolinas to receive any. The 2016 vintage sold out via instagram before it was released by the winery. While I'm dealing with my utter amazement at having this wine, let me tell you a bit about the person and place behind it. There are so few examples of successful, second-generation winemakers in North America. Drake Whitcraft has not only carried forward the standard set by his father Chris, but he has also envisioned new sites and varieties that continue the adventurous work his father started in 1985. Aside from the quality in the glass, this old world tradition of a winery and wisdom passing from father to son is what is most compelling to me.
I’m proud to offer the only bottles of 2017 Whitcraft Pence Ranch Gamay in South AND North Carolina! This is one surprisingly earthy, soulful wine that brings a playful texture, depth of flavor, and drinkability! Undeniable bright, crunchy fruits brought forth by limestone soils. Everything we adore about one of our favorite varieties. If you love great Beaujolais, do not miss this!
