Our last EXCLUSIVE of 2019
White and Red Burgundy for the AGES.
David Duband, Morey St. Denis 'Clos Sorbè' 2017
Domaine Genot-Boulanger, Meursault 'Meix Chavaux' 2017
It has led up to this; a crescendo to our final Monarch Exclusive of the year. Where else would our last stop be but Burgundy? My love, my affection, my obsession.
I'm honored to present you with TWO unrivaled and unmatched wines that are virtually unknown due to the winemakers' relatively brief careers. Both sourced from hallowed vineyards, steeped in history and coveted by collectors.
However, these wines fly under the radar because they're crafted by young, up-and-coming vignerons. The future of Burgundy is bright!
I'm proud to offer the only bottles of
these wines in South Carolina!
The quality of David Duband’s wines has steadily advanced since he took over his family’s domaine in 1991. In 1999 he began the move away from conventional farming and became completely certified organic in 2006. In 2005 he purchased vineyards from Jacky Truchot, a lion of Burgundy with legendary holdings. One of those plots includes today's feature: 'Clos Sorbée', in the village of Morey-Saint-Denis.
Guillaume and Aude Lavollée are the fourth generation at Génot-Boulanger. Since 2008, they've worked tirelessly to improve the quality of their wines. They've transitioned to organic farming and begun experimenting with biodynamics. Their philosophy is “maximum work in the vineyards for minimum intervention in the winery.” That painstaking work has paid off as these wines have never been better. Guillaume's name is consistently mentioned in collector's circles. Wines to snatch up, before prices catch up to the incredible quality.
2017 David Duband, Morey St Denis 'Clos Sorbè' $99.99
*special newsletter price $89.99
This tiny, walled vineyard lies just below the famous Grand Cru of Clos des Lambrays. David's impeccably clean, modern, winemaking is balanced by whole bunch fermentation, giving the wine lift and structure. Beautifully defined, concentrated Pinot Noir with an astounding combination of depth, suppleness and wonderful length.
Situated near the top of Meursault's hill, this cool site delivers an energetic and stylish Chardonnay. But it is Guillaume's deft touch that sets this wine apart. There is a subtle oak spice that keeps the crisp, tart fruit in check with incredible balance and mouth coating concentration. It's wines like this which set Burgundy apart from all other white wines.
