Domaine Philippe Tessier Leading in the Loire
It's no secret, we love sparkling wines. From grower champagnes to fun and easy Pet Nats, we love them all and if you've been to the shop, you'll notice the wall of offerings that greet you upon entering. All are special in one way or another, but today's bottle was a 'sleeper', one I wasn't expecting to love as much as I do.
When a wine makes itself this easy to enjoy, you have to spread that joy. Today's wine is not only the perfect bubbly for any occasion, but also the perfect aperitif in our opinion. A spring sipper with a much deeper and more complex flavor profile than you would expect from a bubbly at this price. Full of white flowers, juicy orchard fruit, and fresh acidity, it's about as good as sparkling wine gets.

Domaine Philippe Tessier is based out of the Loire's most recent appellation of Cour-Cheverny. An appellation formed in part to protect one of the regions niche indigenous varietals, Romorantin. It is from this ancient variety with which Philippe Tessier works his magic. His philosophy is simple: wine should be honest, telling a story of where it's from and who made it.
Tessier farms organically and bottles with only minimal sulfur additions, and almost never fines or filters his wines. His wines are pure, direct and exemplary Loire Valley masterpieces.
A blend of 80% Romorantin and 20% Menu Pineau grown on clay soils. Spontaneous fermentation occurs after pressing, and the wine is bottled during this primary fermentation to create a soft, elegant effervescence.
The nose is intense, with yellow apple and pear, crisp white peach and a touch of toasted brioche. The palate complements the nose and builds on it, with white flowers, almond, and bracing acidity. Drink as an aperitif alongside some nutty cheeses.
