Value White Burgundies
An all-star line-up for a song!

Inexpensive Burgundy, two words rarely uttered in the same sentence. As the popularity of these ethereal wines soar, prices have followed suit. And for good reason, as these hallowed vineyards have long been home to the most majestic expressions of Chardonnay. With an unmatched ability to create wines of power and finesse, grown almost exclusively on limestone soils, there is a bewitching presence to these wines.

This is a land of winemaking legends, home to some of the most revered in the world, making some of the most prestigious and highly sought-after wines on the market. But that doesn't mean you have to break the bank to enjoy a remarkably delicious wine from this prized terroir. If you dig deep, and peel away some of the gloss, there are deals to be had.

That's where we step in. We've scoured the market, tasted, tasted and tasted some more. We've sorted the good from the great. These five surpassed even our high standards.
These are the 5 most overachieving white Burgundies on our shelves. They surpass my very lofty expectations and I promise these are 'can't miss' wines.

Christophe et Fils, Chablis 2018 $34.99

Sebastien Christophe is on his way to becoming a superstar in Chablis. The ultimate underdog, he has made enormous strides to get where he is today. After graduating wine school, he inherited a half-hectare plot and began making remarkable Petit Chablis. He has slowly acquired more land and recognition and now owns three Premiere Cru sites. Christophe's Villages cuvée is a terrific expression of Chablis. A pure wine with energy and elegance. Bright, crisp citrus notes mingle with saline and minerals. This wine begs to be enjoyed with oysters.

Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon, Mâcon-Villages 2018 $24.99

This "entry level" wine is made by one of the most renowned winemaking families in Meursault. In 1999, legendary winemaker Dominique Lafon saw an opportunity to make beautiful wines from a somewhat challenging region in Burgundy. Today, his side project has become an institution for Mâconnais wine, setting the bar for quality year after year. This vintage presents a sublime balance between fruit and acid, texture and freshness. This is a wine full of flavor and finesse.

Bachelet-Monnot, Bourgogne Blanc 2016 $39.99

Brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet are quietly staking their claim to stardom amongst white-winemakers in Burgundy. They established their winery in 2005 after taking over several family vineyards throughout Puligny, Chassagne and Meursault. These two are making modern classics, full of character and precision. This is a Bougogne Blanc in name alone as all fruit come form Puligny-Montrachet. Easily one of the best value white burgundies we have on our shelves. Showcasing fruit from impressive terroir combined with their instinctual hands-off viticulture. Deeply concentrated and supremely balanced, with detail and precision rarely found in wines in this designation.

Antoine Jobard, Bourgogne Blanc 2017 $49.99

Domaine Jobard has a longstanding reputation of being one of the best estates in Meursault. Known for their age-worthy, concise, pure Chardonnays. Today, young-gun Antoine Jobard is at the helm, building on the strong foundation already laid down for him. There is a newfound freshness and approachability that Antoine has brought to the domaine. This Bourgogne Blanc is Meaursault in all but the name. Clarity and precision paired with concentration and depth. The wine exudes intense aromas of honeycomb, lemon and stone. A stunning example of the exquisite wines from this estate!

Benjamin Leroux 'Sous le Châteaux' Saint-Romain 2014 $49.99

With 30 years of experience under his belt, Benjamin Leroux is one of the most experienced young winemakers in Burgundy today. He is undoubtedly on the fast-track to being a Burgundian great. Following in the footsteps of Roulot, Lafon, and Colin-Morey. He excels in finding perfect balance, making wines with ample texture that never compromise tension or salinity. Leroux's 2014 Saint-Romain is a phenomenal portrait of his style and grace in an outstanding vintage. A feather-weight palate gives way to deeply concentrated fruit and minerals. With a saline-laced long finish. This is one to stash for a few years.
